Riviera Beach, Florida – April 11, 2017 – The Port of Palm Beach is pleased to welcome Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL) to Palm Beach County on April 12, 2017.

Congressman Hastings is scheduled to stop at the Port of Palm Beach in Riviera Beach, from noon to 2 pm on Wednesday. The visit will include a presentation with an overview of the 162-acre Port, a tour of the Port, and lunch catered by Don Ramon Restaurant.

During the American Association of Port Authorities’ Spring Conference in Washington, D.C. last week, Hastings met with Manuel Almira and Katherine M. Waldron, the Port of Palm Beach’s Executive Director and Commissioner respectively, to discuss the state of seaport business.

“The Commissioners, staff and I look forward to welcoming Congressman Hastings on Wednesday,” said Blair J. Ciklin, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners for the Port of Palm Beach. “It is critical that we continue collaborating and maintaining those open lines of communication, in order to keep the Port of Palm Beach sustainable and secure.”

About Alcee L. Hastings

Alcee L. Hastings represents his native state of Florida by serving as Congressman for District 20, which includes parts of Broward and Palm Beach Counties. Congressman Hastings was first elected in 1992 and is currently serving his 13th term in the Congress. Born in Altamonte Springs, he attended Florida’s public schools, and graduated from Fisk University in 1958. He earned his law degree from Florida A&M University in Tallahassee. Known to many as “Judge,” Alcee Hastings has distinguished himself as an attorney, civil rights activist, judge, and now Member of Congress. Appointed by President Jimmy Carter in 1979, he became the first African-American Federal Judge in the State of Florida, and served in that position for 10 years.
