Senator Rick Scott and panelists during roundtable discussion

U.S. Senator Rick Scott meets with local business leaders at Port of Palm Beach

U.S. Senator Rick Scott held a roundtable discussion at Port of Palm Beach to talk about supply chain disruptions impacting Americans all over the country. The Senator recognized the Port of Palm Beach is running smoothly and not experiencing the backlog of vessels and containers, as seen at other U.S. ports.

Port of Palm Beach Executive Director Manuel Almira participated in the discussion and weighed how the supply chain is impacting the Port , such as the delay in the delivery of security products and recently purchased Port vehicles.

Several local business leaders and owners in attendance weighed in on the challenges they are currently facing including labor shortages, inflation and employee retention.

Tropical Shipping's CEO Jeff Fiser was one of the few panelists who provided positive news. Fiser explained how the company's cargo tonnage is up more than five percent, compared to this time last year. The struggle is finding qualified individuals to fill vacant positions.

CEMEX unloader to begin operations

cement unloader and two cranes used to off load the equipment

This month, a more than 200 ton cement unloader arrived at the Port by barge.

The special stevedoring equipment took approximately two days to unload using 650 and 750 ton cranes.

Port tenant and stevedore company, Heavy Lift Services, handled the equipment that will be operated by CEMEX in its upgraded terminal at Port of Palm Beach.
