Port of Palm Beach becomes official sponsor of Reef Institute's Coral Reef Festival
The Port of Palm Beach recently donated $1,000 to the Reef Institute's for its upcoming 1st Annual Coral Reef Festival being held Saturday, August 14th at Sailfish Marina.
The Port of Palm Beach has played a significant role in preserving corals in our area. Before our waterside construction projects begin, the Port hires a women-owned environment consulting firm, Coastal Eco-Group Inc., to remove stony corals greater than 10 centimeters (cm) in diameter. The corals have been relocated to the Town of Palm Beach mitigation reef site. To date, the Port has relocated more than 1,000 corals. The Port has also dedicated a page on its website to the reef safe sunscreens listed on the Reef Institute website.
Port staff member, Engineer Ron Coddington, continues his mission on protecting corals by serving on the Southeast Florida Coral Reef Initiative.
