The Port of Palm Beach is celebrating a milestone fiscal year, with a newly released audit showing record-breaking revenue and recording breaking cargo activity in 2024. In fiscal year 2024, the Port reached a gross revenue of 27 million marking the highest revenue earned in more than two decades (See chart below).

Cargo tonnage reached an all-time high of 2.8 million tons in 2024, a 12% increase over the previous fiscal year when the Port moved 2.5 million tons. Certain cargo types, including asphalt, molasses, rush, sugar, and cement fuel to part of the increase in revenue.

“Together with Port staff and the Port of Palm Beach Commission, we are focused on the port’s long-term success, increasing revenues, and continuing to create new jobs,” Port Executive Director Michael Meekins said. Meekins explains as new agreements take effect, he expects the port’s growth pattern to continue to trend upward. “These additional earnings will afford us the ability to fund millions in critical infrastructure projects in the coming years,” Meekins said. “It also gives us the opportunity to keep up with the growth of our tenants and users.”

That forward momentum was already evident in fiscal year 2024, when the port successfully reduced operating expenses by 7%, while simultaneously making significant investments and restoring aging infrastructure. The fiscal year demonstrated how efficiency, innovation, and strong partnerships can deliver powerful results.

"This record-breaking year also highlights the Port's long-standing commitment to financial self-sufficiency," said of Palm Beach Commission Chairman Blair J Ciklin. "For half a century, we have been able to support port operations and infrastructure improvements without placing a tax burden on the residents of the district."

Port Enhances Rail Efficiency with Port Infrastructure Development Program
Take a behind-the-scenes look at Phase 1 of the Port of Palm Beach's Port Infrastructure Development Program (PIDP), which focused on transforming the on-dock intermodal container transfer facility. The major upgrades improve cargo movement efficiency by enhancing rail connectivity, modernizing container handling systems, and supporting safer, faster, and more sustainable freight operations. Check out the video below for a closer look at the improvements and to learn what's changed.

Construction on Port Infrastructure Development Program
Construction Progress - CBP Building demo is completed and painting is underway.
- Main Gate has two open lanes (one ingress/one egress).
- 50% completed - Installing all the gates at main gate and the secondary inspections areas.
- 75% completed- United States Customs & Border Proetction Rail Inspection and Radiation Portal Monitors (RPMs)
The PIDP is set to enhance the Port's infrastructure and boost its operational efficiency. Key Enhancements: - Revamped Main Port Gate: The redesign of the main port gate off MLK Blvd. will introduce additional lanes, streamlining truck entry and improving cargo transport efficiency within the Port.
- Advanced Truck Processing System: A new system will cut incoming container truck wait times by 50%, significantly reducing emissions and enhancing overall port operations.
- Expanded Freight Rail Capacity: The project will boost annual freight rail capacity by 116%, increasing it from 44,000 to nearly 100,000 TEUs. The addition of new rail tracks will also provide increased storage for rail cars within the port.
- Reduced Truck Traffic: By expanding intermodal rail capacity, the project will eliminate 29,000 truck trips annually from the congested Interstate 95 corridor and surface transportation network.
- Job Creation: At least 105 direct jobs will be created during the construction phase, providing a boost to the local economy
The design build project is a collaboration between the Port, Gonzalez & Sons Equipment Inc., HDR, PSA Management, Transystems and Moffatt and Nichol. The project is divided into four phases.
Phase 1: rail tracks west of Slip 2, a parking lot west of the molasses tanks and the refrigerated container area just east of the Port's main entrance. Phase 2: Open South Gate to traffic, construct south track area and section of South Port Road Phase 3: Open Main Gate to traffic, close old interchange, and construct North Port Road and Avenue E Phase 4: Complete remaining items
