Strengthening the Port's Partnership with the United States Army Corps of Engineers
United States Army Corps of Engineers South Atlantic Division Commander Brigadier General Daniel Hibner met with Port of Palm Beach Board Chairman Wayne Richards and staff to better understand the Port’s significance to the global economy, share operational concerns experienced by our tenants, and highlight the Port's vision. By working with the Port, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers can better program operational and maintenance needs and plan future navigational improvements.

District Clerk Awarded Master Municipal Clerk DesignationDuring the May Board of Commissioners Meeting, District Clerk Jackelin Machado was honored with the prestigious Master Municipal Clerk (MMC) designation. She is the first clerk at the port to receive such an honor. The MMC program, offered by the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC), recognizes the dedication to lifelong learning and professional excellence among municipal clerks worldwide.
Machado is one of only 165 municipal clerks in the state of Florida who have earned their Master Municipal Clerk certification. Florida Association of City Clerks Southeast District Director and the Clerk of the Town of Gulf Stream Reneé Basel presented Machado with a award on Thursday, May 16, 2024 during the Commissioners Meeting. The attainment of the MMC designation is particularly notable, as only 10% of the 14,934 members of the IIMC have reached this milestone. The MMC program, designed to enhance the skills and knowledge of municipal clerks, emphasizes both education and professional contributions. Candidates must demonstrate active engagement in educational pursuits and professional activities. Machado's achievement highlights her commitment to advancing her expertise in municipal duties.

Port Introduces Employee of the Year Program Join us in congratulating the Port of Palm Beach's first Employee of the Year, Public Information Officer Yaremi Farinas, known to many as "Yare". "We have so many dedicated employees here at the Port so the decision on who would be the first employee of the year was especially difficult," Port Executive Director Michael Meekins said. "Yaremi stood out for consistently demonstrating exceptional performance, dedication, and her contribution to our organization, as well as the community that surrounds us."
This coming June, Yaremi will be celebrating five years at the Port of Palm Beach. "We are extremely proud to have Yaremi represent and showcase the Port through so many projects both inside and outside of the Port. Anyone who works with Yaremi will tell you she is self-driven, hardworking, very detail orientated and loyal," Meekins said. Board Chairman Waye Richards presented Yaremi an award during the May Board Meeting. "This is the first year that the Port of Palm Beach decided to do something that I know of, along these lines," Chairman Richards said. "And the Port felt so compelled to do this because of the exemplary actions by one of our employees. We have phenomenal employees, but one employee has really stood out this year."
Yaremi also received a reserved parking spot she can use until next May when a new employee of the year is selected. "I am thankful I found a place that offers me the opportunity for creative freedom, professional growth, and allows me to make a difference in my community," Yaremi said.

Port Recognizes National Water Safety Month
In recognition of National Water Safety Month, members of the Riviera Beach and West Palm Beach Fire Departments visited the Port of Palm Beach for a water demonstration. They showed port workers how to use the port’s lifesaving resources in case someone falls into one of the slips. The firefighters demonstrated the lifesaving stations that are spread out along the port’s docks. The stations include a life ring, throw bag, and a ladder. A special thank you to Port tenant CEMEX for sponsoring Kona Ice after the event. Click here to watch a short video of the event

On June 7th, the Port of Palm Beach partnered with Riviera Beach Fire Rescue to provide CPR and AED training at the Port. Learning CPR is an important step towards a safer readiness and a chance to significantly help someone in need. More than 30 people were certified, including 21 Port employees. The training will help employees respond effectively to emergencies in the workplace. We appreciate the support of Riviera Beach Fire Rescue Inspector Jeff Woltjer who made the training session interesting and informative.
